Being a homemaker can be such a joy! It all starts with the posture of your heart. In Proverbs 17:22 God says "A joyful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Now, I know what you're thinking. Doing chores and taking care of my home can feel 'spirit crushing' at times. However, when you're using your hands to produce fruitful things such as, a clean comforting home, and a joyful environment, it can really shift your perspective. If you're anything like me and are just starting your homemaking journey, then I want to share 5 helpful tips with you to help you excel in your home.

1. Pray
Now, this might sound like an odd start. Any woman pursuing homemaking should be praying for her heart to change. Homemaking is not for the weak, idle, or lazy. It is a wonderful responsibility that has been forgotten and belittled. When I first approached this role I looked at it with timid eyes. I did not want to do this work. So, I prayed and asked God to posture my heart after Christ, to have more of a servant heart. To give me strength to endure two under two and keeping my home a place of cleanliness and warmth. Now, this does not mean we have to have our home perfect all the time. So do not be discouraged if you feel you are falling short. Bring your shortcomings to Christ and pray!
2. Wake up early
This is one of those things we all wish we were better at. I know I do. I am still nursing my 3 month old through the night, and it is not easy to wake up before 7. However, I will say, on the days that I do, it makes a huge difference! Waking up early gives me the ability to get ready, make coffee, spend some time in my bible and prayer, and even prepare the home for the day. Take advantage of this time to get out your non perishable items for dinner prep, make your bed, or even get ahead on your to-do list for the day. Getting up early can truly set the tone for the day.
3. Create Lists
At this point these tips may seem a bit, been there, done that. But it's all about working smarter not harder. Making a checklist, or even several checklists can be helpful to keep your home on track. I used to overlook this, and keep every little thing in my head. It didn't take long for me to realize that wasn't going to work, nor was it really helping me or my home. If you can spare the cash for it, I would invest in a homemaking planner. I personally love the home planner created and crafted for homemaking. This can be found on the Passionate Penny Pincher website, in the online shop. This planner specifically has checklists galore, a daily scripture reading plan, and so much more! If however you want to start with making lists, I would suggest creating a list for where you want to start. I usually have an everyday list of the things I want to get done. Then, I have a list of other bigger home tasks/projects that I want to accomplish. This can help you get all of the information in your head, on paper.
4. Create a realistic timeline.
This can help you set a realistic goal of when you want to have your checklists accomplished. Another benefit of having a homemaking planner is that the checklists are time specific. They help you day to day to stay on track and accomplish your tasks, and goals. Everyday you are checking off a little chuck of your lists and therefore accomplishing your goals within your timeline. Setting a timeline also keeps you accountable. This is really important for homemaking. If you fall into the mindset of I'll get to that "later" or "eventually", you will inevitably forget about it.
5. Express Gratitude
Last but not least, is gratitude. This is so important to do regularly. I mean like, everyday if you can! When your home is clean, organized, and you are able to provide the comforting elements of being home- there is no better feeling. I am very grateful that I have a home to create this atmosphere. When my husband comes home from a long day and I have dinner going and light music playing, I know this is his favorite place to be. Practicing gratitude will help homemaking to be more enjoyable and something you genuinely look forward to each day. You can practice this by writing it down daily, sharing with someone what you're grateful for, or in your prayers to God. This is another key to having good heart posture when homemaking. Psalm 95:2 "Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise."
Closing
I hope these tips are helpful to you and your homemaking journey. Remember, no one is perfect at this, and it is not something to aim to be "perfect" at. This is a role bestowed by God himself to be a blessing to your family and to honor Him. I pray that these tips will help you feel more at ease and confident when serving your home and your families.
